4. Eligibility and Registration
Our courses are primarily designed for adult learners.
Customers must be at least 18 years old to purchase our products or services independently.
Anyone under 18 wishing to participate must obtain permission from a parent or legal guardian, who must make the purchase and accept these Terms and Conditions on their behalf.
When registering, you agree to provide accurate and current information.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account details and passwords.
You must not share your personal login credentials with anyone else.
Please notify us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without permission.
5. Course Content and Delivery
The Transcription Lab's principal educational programme is delivered online through the Skool learning platform.
Unless otherwise stated on the relevant sales page, enrolment includes:
Access to the full online course, allowing students to work through the teaching materials at their own pace.
Access to accompanying educational exercises and resources.
Membership of The Transcription Lab's private online learning community.
The opportunity to attend up to two one-hour group Zoom teaching sessions with the course instructor.
The course is designed for independent learning, supported by community participation and scheduled group teaching.
Individual tuition is not included unless specifically stated as part of a separate product or agreement.
We reserve the right to make reasonable improvements and updates to course materials, teaching methods and delivery arrangements.
Any material changes affecting the essential features of a purchased course will be communicated to enrolled students.
We will not remove or substantially reduce promised benefits without providing an appropriate remedy where required by law.
6. Course Access and Renewal
Enrolment in The Transcription Lab provides access to the purchased course and associated Skool learning community for 12 months from the date of purchase, unless a different commencement date is expressly agreed.
During this period, students may work through the course at their own pace and participate in the associated learning community.
At the end of the 12-month period, students will have the opportunity to renew their access for a further period, subject to the renewal options available at that time.
Renewal is optional and will not take place automatically.
The applicable renewal price, duration and terms will be clearly communicated before any renewal purchase.
No further payment will be taken without the customer's authorisation.
If a student chooses not to renew, access to the course materials and private learning community will normally end when the existing 12-month access period expires.
We may send reminders before the expiry date to allow students to consider their renewal options.
We may occasionally suspend access for maintenance, technical improvements or circumstances outside our reasonable control.
If we decide to discontinue a paid course during a student's active access period, we will provide reasonable notice wherever practicable and offer any appropriate remedy required by law.
We may change our course-hosting platform where reasonably necessary, provided that enrolled students continue to receive substantially equivalent access to the educational content they purchased.
Students are responsible for having suitable internet access and equipment to use the online course.
7. Group Zoom Teaching Sessions
Where included in the course package, students are entitled to attend up to two one-hour group Zoom teaching sessions.
These sessions are intended to provide additional teaching, practical guidance, discussion and opportunities to ask questions.
Sessions will be scheduled according to instructor availability and reasonable demand.
We cannot guarantee that every session will be available at a particular date or time.
There is no separate booking deadline for these sessions during a student's active course membership.
Students may choose when to use their session entitlement, subject to the availability of scheduled group sessions.
Unused session entitlements will remain available throughout the student's active 12-month course access period.
If a student renews their course membership, any unused session entitlements from the original purchase will remain available during the renewed access period, unless different arrangements are expressly agreed with the student.
Renewal does not automatically provide an additional entitlement to two group sessions unless this is expressly included in the renewal offer.
Students are responsible for booking and attending their sessions in accordance with the instructions provided.
If a student cannot attend a booked session, we ask that they provide as much advance notice as reasonably possible.
Where a session is cancelled by The Transcription Lab, we will endeavour to provide an alternative opportunity.
Group sessions may involve other course members, and individual attention will necessarily depend on the number of participants.
We reserve the right to introduce reasonable booking arrangements to ensure fair access for all eligible students.
8. Recording of Teaching Sessions
Certain online teaching sessions may be recorded for educational purposes, quality improvement or to provide learning resources to participants.
Participants will be informed in advance when recording is intended.
Where recordings include identifiable participants, we will explain the relevant purposes and handling of their personal information in our Privacy Policy or an appropriate recording notice.
We will not use identifiable student recordings, photographs or contributions in public promotional materials without obtaining appropriate permission.
Students must not independently record, reproduce or distribute group teaching sessions without prior permission from The Transcription Lab and any other relevant participants.
9. Fees and Payment
Prices for our courses, products and services will be displayed on the relevant sales or checkout pages.
Prices will be shown in the currency indicated at checkout.
Any applicable taxes and mandatory charges will be disclosed before the customer completes the purchase.
Payments are processed through authorised third-party payment providers, which may include Stripe.
We do not normally receive or store customers' complete payment card details.
Customers are responsible for ensuring that their payment information is accurate and that they are authorised to use their chosen payment method.
Access to paid products may depend upon successful payment.
If a payment fails, we may contact the customer to resolve the issue and may temporarily restrict access to unpaid services, subject to applicable consumer rights.
Where payment plans are offered, the total price, instalment amounts, payment dates and applicable conditions will be disclosed before purchase.
A payment plan does not create an ongoing subscription unless expressly described as such.
Course renewal is optional and does not involve automatic recurring payments.
10. Consumer Cancellation Rights
We want customers to understand their cancellation rights before purchasing.
Customers purchasing online as consumers may have statutory cancellation rights, including rights under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.
For qualifying distance contracts, the usual cancellation period is 14 days, although the precise rules depend on the nature of the product or service purchased.
Digital Content
Where a customer purchases digital content that is not supplied on a physical medium, such as downloadable materials or certain forms of online course content, we may offer immediate access.
If immediate supply begins during the statutory cancellation period, we will obtain any express consent and acknowledgement required by law before relying on an exception to the cancellation right.
Where applicable, we will provide the required contractual confirmation.
If the legal requirements for the loss of cancellation rights have not been met, the customer's statutory rights will continue to apply.
Live Teaching and Services
Where a purchase includes live teaching or other services, the applicable cancellation rules may differ from those relating to digital content.
Where a customer expressly requests that a service begin during the cancellation period, and subsequently exercises a valid cancellation right, a proportionate charge may be payable for services already supplied where permitted by law and where the relevant legal requirements have been satisfied.
Courses Combining Digital Content and Live Teaching
Some Transcription Lab packages combine immediate access to digital educational materials with an entitlement to attend live group teaching sessions.
The cancellation arrangements for these packages will reflect the nature of the contract and the relevant statutory requirements.
We will not treat access to digital materials as automatically removing every cancellation right relating to a combined package.
Customers will be given clear information about the applicable arrangements before completing their purchase.
11. Refund Policy
The Transcription Lab does not offer an additional voluntary money-back guarantee beyond customers' statutory rights, unless expressly stated in a particular offer.
Refund eligibility depends on the product purchased, the circumstances of the request and applicable consumer law.
Customers may be entitled to a refund or other remedy where:
A valid statutory cancellation right is exercised.
Digital content is faulty or does not conform to the contract.
A service has not been provided with reasonable care and skill.
The purchased product or service has been materially misrepresented.
We are unable to provide the essential elements of a purchased product or service.
A change of mind after the applicable statutory cancellation period has expired does not automatically create a further right to a refund.
Nothing in this policy excludes or restricts statutory consumer remedies.
To request a cancellation or refund, please contact:
Please include your name, purchase date and sufficient details to identify the order.
We will review the request and respond within a reasonable period.
Where a statutory cancellation refund is due, it will be processed within the applicable legal deadline, normally using the original payment method unless otherwise agreed.
12. Intellectual Property and Copyright
The Transcription Lab's original course materials, teaching videos, written explanations, exercises, graphics, worksheets, website content and other original educational resources are protected by applicable intellectual property laws.
Except where otherwise stated, these materials belong to The Transcription Lab or are used with permission from the relevant rights holders.
Purchasing a course grants the customer a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to access and use the materials for their own educational purposes during their active access period.
This licence does not transfer ownership of the intellectual property.
Without prior written permission, customers must not:
Copy, reproduce or distribute substantial parts of the course materials.
Upload course videos or resources to public websites or file-sharing services.
Share paid course access with unauthorised individuals.
Sell, sublicense or commercially exploit the course materials.
Repackage or reproduce our teaching resources as part of another commercial course.
Remove copyright notices or other ownership information.
Students may download or print resources where that functionality is expressly provided, for their personal educational use.
Lawfully downloaded resources intended for permanent personal retention may continue to be used for that purpose after membership expires, unless a restriction was clearly stated before purchase.
Any additional permissions must be obtained in writing.
13. Third-Party Music and Copyright
The study of music by ear may involve listening to, analysing and transcribing musical compositions and recordings owned by third parties.
Copyright in those compositions and recordings remains with the relevant rights holders.
Participation in The Transcription Lab does not grant students permission to reproduce, publish, distribute, sell or commercially exploit third-party copyrighted material.
Students are responsible for ensuring that any public or commercial use of their transcriptions or recordings complies with applicable copyright law and licensing requirements.
Where musical examples are used in teaching, this does not imply that The Transcription Lab owns the underlying third-party musical works.
14. Students' Own Work
Students retain ownership of original work they create, including their own musical compositions, original arrangements, written contributions and other original materials.
Where students submit materials for teaching, feedback or community discussion, they grant The Transcription Lab a limited, non-exclusive permission to use those materials for the purposes of delivering the educational service.
This may include displaying work within the private course environment or discussing it during teaching sessions.
This permission does not transfer ownership of the student's original work to The Transcription Lab.
It also does not grant any rights that the student does not hold in third-party copyrighted material.
We will not sell students' original work or publicly exploit identifiable student submissions for promotional purposes without obtaining appropriate permission.
15. Community Membership and Conduct
The Transcription Lab aims to provide a supportive and constructive learning environment.
Students participating in our Skool community or group teaching sessions agree to treat other members and the instructor with respect.
Members must not:
Harass, bully, threaten or discriminate against other participants.
Post unlawful, abusive or deliberately offensive material.
Share another member's personal information without permission.
Distribute copyrighted material without appropriate authorisation.
Use the community primarily for unsolicited advertising or commercial promotion.
Share private community discussions or identifiable member contributions publicly without appropriate permission.
Interfere with the normal operation of the community or teaching sessions.
We may moderate discussions and remove content that breaches these rules.
For serious or repeated breaches, we may suspend or terminate community access.
Where appropriate, we will explain the reason and provide an opportunity to respond.
Any suspension or termination will be handled reasonably and in accordance with applicable consumer rights.
16. Educational Outcomes and Personal Responsibility
The Transcription Lab provides educational guidance intended to help students develop their musical knowledge and practical skills.
We believe that transcription can be a valuable method of developing musical understanding and performance.
However, individual results vary.
Progress may depend upon previous musical experience, practice habits, available time, motivation, participation and other personal circumstances.
We do not guarantee that any student will achieve a particular level of proficiency or musical accomplishment within a specified period.
Students remain responsible for their own practice, participation and application of the teaching materials.
Nothing in this section reduces our responsibility to provide the purchased educational services with reasonable care and skill.
17. Website Use
Visitors and customers agree to use our website lawfully and responsibly.
You must not:
Attempt to gain unauthorised access to our website or systems.
Introduce viruses, malicious code or other harmful technology.
Interfere with the operation or security of the website.
Use automated methods to extract substantial amounts of protected website content without permission.
Use the website for fraudulent or unlawful purposes.
We may take reasonable steps to protect the website, our customers and our intellectual property.
18. Third-Party Platforms and Services
The Transcription Lab uses third-party technology providers to deliver its products and services.
These may include:
Skool for course hosting and community membership.
Zoom for live online teaching.
Stripe for payment processing.
GoHighLevel for website, customer communication and related business functions.
Other providers reasonably necessary to deliver our services.
These platforms may operate under their own terms of service and privacy notices.
Although we endeavour to use reliable providers, occasional interruptions or technical problems may occur.
We will take reasonable steps to resolve issues affecting the delivery of our services.
We remain responsible for our own contractual obligations and will not use third-party platform failures to exclude consumer rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
19. Privacy and Personal Data
We take the privacy and security of personal information seriously.
We process personal data in accordance with applicable data protection legislation, including the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018.

20. Testimonials and Promotional Materials
We may invite students to provide feedback, reviews or testimonials about their experiences.
Participation is voluntary unless a particular arrangement has been separately and clearly agreed.
We will not publish identifiable testimonials, photographs, video recordings or other personal promotional material without an appropriate legal basis and any permissions required by law.
Where a testimonial has been provided in exchange for a benefit, such as free teaching or a discount, we will make any disclosures required by applicable advertising and consumer protection rules.
We will not knowingly publish misleading testimonials or misrepresent students' experiences or achievements.
Permission to use identifiable promotional material may be withdrawn where the law or the terms of the permission allow, although withdrawal may not always affect uses already lawfully completed.

22. Limitation of Liability
We will provide our products and services with reasonable care and skill.
Nothing in these Terms and Conditions excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful.
In particular, nothing excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot legally be excluded.
Nothing in these Terms and Conditions limits the statutory rights of consumers.
Subject to those protections, we are not responsible for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when the contract was made or that were not caused by our breach of contract or failure to exercise reasonable care and skill.
Where customers purchase our products wholly or mainly for personal use, we do not accept responsibility for business losses arising from their use of the products, except where applicable law requires otherwise.
We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability of the website or third-party platforms, but we will take reasonable steps to address problems affecting the services we have agreed to provide.
23. Suspension and Termination
We may suspend access where reasonably necessary to address:
Security concerns.
Suspected fraudulent activity.
Serious breaches of these Terms and Conditions.
Unauthorised sharing or distribution of course materials.
Serious misconduct affecting other community members.
Non-payment of sums properly due.
Where reasonably practicable, we will notify the customer of the issue and provide an opportunity to resolve it.
Immediate action may be necessary in cases involving serious security risks, unlawful activity or threats to other participants.
Termination of access does not automatically remove any refund or other remedy to which a customer is legally entitled.
Customers may discontinue their participation at any time, subject to the applicable cancellation, refund and payment provisions.
Unless renewed, course and community access will normally end when the purchased 12-month access period expires.
24. Changes to Courses and Services
We may update our website, educational materials and teaching arrangements to maintain quality, improve the learning experience or respond to technological developments.
Reasonable updates may include:
Revising or improving lessons.
Adding new educational resources.
Correcting errors.
Updating the course platform.
Adjusting the scheduling of group sessions.
We will not use this provision to make material changes to an existing customer's purchased benefits without an appropriate contractual or legal basis.
Where a material change adversely affects a customer, we will provide any remedy required by law.
25. Changes to These Terms and Conditions
We may update these Terms and Conditions from time to time.
The latest version will be published on our website with an updated revision date.
Changes will generally apply to future purchases from the date they take effect.
For existing purchases, the terms agreed at the time of purchase will continue to govern the contract unless a change is lawfully agreed or otherwise permitted.
Where a proposed change materially affects existing customers, we will provide appropriate notice and respect their contractual and statutory rights.
26. International Customers
The Transcription Lab welcomes students from the United Kingdom and other countries.
Customers purchasing from outside the United Kingdom should ensure that they can access the required online platforms and that participation is permitted under applicable local laws.
Prices, taxes and payment processing arrangements may vary depending on the customer's location.
Where applicable, mandatory consumer protection laws in a customer's country of residence may provide additional rights.
Nothing in these Terms and Conditions is intended to deprive consumers of mandatory legal protections that apply to them.
27. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales, subject to any mandatory consumer protections that apply in another jurisdiction.
If a customer has a complaint or dispute, we encourage them to contact us first so that we can attempt to resolve the matter fairly and promptly.
Nothing in these Terms and Conditions prevents consumers from exercising their legal rights or accessing courts that have jurisdiction under applicable law.
28. Complaints and Customer Support
We aim to provide a positive educational experience and welcome constructive feedback.
If you experience a problem with a purchase, course, teaching session or other aspect of our service, please contact us.
Email: [email protected]
Please provide a description of the issue and any relevant purchase information.
We will acknowledge and investigate complaints within a reasonable period and endeavour to reach a fair resolution.
Where a complaint concerns statutory consumer rights, we will comply with the applicable legal requirements.
29. Severability
If any provision of these Terms and Conditions is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue to apply so far as legally possible.
